All That Glitters

Stalls and halls laden with glistening gems, metals, and stunning watches for as far as the eye can see, the Exhibition and Convention Centre comes to life in a truly spectacular manner for 5 days, as exhibitors and visitors alike from across the globe make Bahrain their home for duration of the extravagant Jewellery Arabia event. The jewellery and watch exhibition has an unsurpassed reputation for being the region’s most celebrated affair as jewellers, watch enthusiasts, connoisseurs of objects d’art, and lovers of precious stones come together and exhibit some of the world’s most precious and luxurious pieces. Over the years the exhibition has allowed trends from different countries, spanning from Europe to Arabia, to come together and has resulted in a lustrous showcase on a Bahraini platform. Since its inception in 1992, Jewellery Arabia has grown not only in size but also in numbers in terms of visitors and exhibitors. Going into its 25th year in 2016, the exhibition is once again gearing up to become a glistening spectacle in November.
With around 30 countries participating from around the world, over the last 25 years Jewellery Arabia has gotten bigger and more extravagant with each passing year; welcoming around 50,000 visitors last year alone. Held under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister of Bahrain, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, every year the Exhibition and Convention Centre and the specially commissioned temporary halls, located in Sanabis, are fitted with around 600 stalls for the exhibitors to reveal their precious items. A lush experience at every corner of the exhibition, jewellers, watch retailers, and collectors alike set up a remarkable display of dazzling luxury items brought to Bahrain from the likes of Austria, France, Germany, Greece, India, Malaysia, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, and of course, the GCC region, to name a few. Local bloggers, such as The Overdressed, designers like Azza Al Hujairi, and jewellers such as Mattar Jewellers, Al Zain Jewellery and more, make a statement about the lavish variety Bahrain has to offer, revealing a stunning collection of traditional and modern jewellery and gift items. International jewellery brands set up their lucrative pavilions as well and unveil their definition of opulence.
A haven for watch enthusiasts as well, Jewellery Arabia has also hosts a wide variety of luxurious watch brands and retailers. From nouveau luxury watch house like Projekt8 (official retailers of Seven Friday, HYT, Linde Werdelin, Bernard Favre, Spin-R in Bahrain), to illustrious watch brands such as Audemars Piguet Moyen-Orient, Vacheron Constantin, Tag Heuer, the expansive street and high-end watch brands, Jewellery Arabia’s wide spectrum of vendors attracts buyers of all kinds.
Encompassing all elements of luxury, Jewellery Arabia 2015 also unveiled in Bahrain the Guinness World Record-holding pieces such as the $2million diamond-encrusted Coronet and Gibson Brands guitar, as well as the world’s largest Paraiba tourmaline, weighing 191.87 carats, displayed by Kaufmann de Suisse.
The visitors – who are comprised of high net-worth private collectors, general public, wholesalers, dealers, importers, jewellery designers, retailers, chain owners, agents, distributors, and procurement professionals – are treated to not only luxurious items from around the world, but a Thai fashion show and cultural events hosted by The Gems, Jewellery and Precious Metals Confederation of Thailand (GJPCT) and Thai Gem and Jewellery Association (TGJTA) in cooperation with Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP). Additionally, for those whose interest in gems goes beyond acquiring a precious stone for personal use, Jewellery Arabia has teamed with the most renowned authority gemology, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and independent international laboratory, Solitaire Gem Labs (SGL) to offer free daily seminars to help improve consumer confidence. The extravagance continues further as the annual Middle East Premier Awards are held to crown the best watches, jewellery, and pens.
Organised by Arabian Exhibition Management, Jewellery Arabia is set to take place on 22nd November till the 26th. Setting the standard for luxury within the GCC region, the extravagant exhibition will once again become a platform for a splendid showcase of magnificence of luxury from around the world in the heart of Bahrain.
