Amina Al Abbassi is the epitome of creative entrepreneurship. The Australian born Bahraini artist, who only two years ago was working a regular day job in a Bahrain bank, is now an internationally sought after Artist, Gallery Owner, and uber successful businesswoman. She also boasts a line of her own art-inspired accessories and home wares which retail at the prestigious Harrods of London.

The once-shy artist, who credits her husband with giving her the courage to follow her passion, has featured prominently in both group and solo exhibitions throughout the Gulf region since taking up art full time. These include a solo exhibition at Souq Waqif Art Center in Doha, Qatar, an exhibition in Maison Bo-M Galleries in Riyadh, KSA, and exhibitions with Bahrain’s Al Ali Art Festival and the Ministry of Culture. Last year one of Amina’s artworks sold for an impressive $25000 at the Noor Dubai Charity Auction held by Christies in Dubai.

Amina is a member of the Bahrain Art Society and praises Al Riwaq Art Space, one of the Kingdom’s most prestigious art galleries and a platform for budding artists, for providing her with her first big exposure as an artist – an experience she posits encouraged her to take the plunge and forge a full time career as an artist.

As a result, Amina endeavors to actively support young Bahraini artists and has participated in a number of events. This includes participating as a judging panel member for the NBH International Youth Creativity Award in addition to being a Creativity Judge on the “Your House is Our House” project.

Today, Amina’s artwork, an effortless fusion of modernity and tradition, continues to gain immense popularity both at home and abroad. She has become known for her contemporary technique of using mixed media, acrylic and oils to bring a fresh perspective to a myriad of themes that are rich in heritage many of which exude raw, feminine strength.

While doing what she loves, Amina is building a successful business. She has diversified her artistic offerings to include a full product range of stylish accessories and decadent home décor pieces each featuring a high quality print of one of the artists original paintings. The exceptionally well received range includes a collection of beautiful bags, purses, phone covers and folders, as well as partitions, tables, ottomans cushion covers and more.

The artist and entrepreneur has also collaborated with some of the Kingdom’s hottest restaurants and eateries, launching an artistically inspired ‘Amina Maki’ at Maki restaurant, and commissioning a number of pieces for The Rice Bowl, as well as chocolatier Creolate. Her “Caravans of Peace” painting on a real-sized camel statue is now a proud Bahraini landmark established at Seef Mall.

As well as being sold at Harrods of London, Amina’s eclectic range is now available from her personal gallery, ‘Amina Gallery’ in Riyadat Mall in Bahrain, as well as at selected retailers throughout the Gulf. The artist’s collection can also be viewed and purchased from her award winning online gallery at www.aminagallery.com
