Following her own dreams of turning her creative abilities and sketches into delicate creations for men and women, Jewan Naqi’s dreamcatcher inspired jewellery is versatile, elegant, and sophisticated. Donating a percentage of the collection’s proceeds to The Dream Society, El Jewan is the embodiment of charm and chic with a charitable purpose and deeper meaning behind each piece. Perle Magazine spoke to Jewan about her stunning jewellery line and how she turned her dreams into a reality.
“I was raised by a family with true values and open minded way of thinking – so when it comes to achieving education or career ambitions I fully rely upon my own skills and knowledge. I knew that the corporate world is a great school of life and that was where I started to build up my main work experience.” – Jewan Naqi
How did you delve into the world of designing jewellery?
I was always into the world of creative visual – drawing, sketching and trying to express the ideas that I had. With time I learnt how to systemize them into something more determine and explicit – I truly believe my corporate background helped a lot in doing so.
What was the inspiration behind your designs?
I have admired those who were able to listen to their dreams and follow their heart to do what they love. Every time I hear a story of someone overcoming a fear of change and the unknown towards a dream I start hearing myself – my true self. This, I believe, was the main inspiration behind what I am doing now.
How long did it take to complete jewellery designs and collection, from conception to final finished product?
It took me approximately a year, as it is a whole process of transforming ideas and passion into artistic visible creations.
What is the core idea behind your collection?
The main concept lays with every person is entitled to have a dream and everyone should have one. My collection is just a reminder that we do not have to give up on dreaming – that energy also inspires others.
Tell us about the unique features of the necklaces?
The main feature is transformation and versatility. You can wear it from day into night without changing the actual piece! All you have to do is convert it from necklace into an eye-catching bracelet. It is inspired by dream catchers to remind people it is healthy to dream and you can do something about these dreams to transform your life.
Did you work with someone to create these designs?
Many people inspired me throughout the process by sharing their stories, their energy and experience. However it is a very personal collection for me as it is the first one so I tried to focus on it on my own and reflect myself within these designs.
What are the different metals and stones you use in your pieces?
I have used the 14k Rose gold, 14k White gold and 925 sterling silver with diamonds.
What are the pieces that comprise the collection?
The collection is comprised mainly of a necklace that can be transformed into finger bracelet, bracelet with a dream catcher that can be used as a ring, and a ring with a chain that can be used as a thread through earring. I also have single pieces that are a part of the collection.
When did you first showcase your jewellery collection?
I showcased my jewellery for the first time in Tranoi Tradeshow in Paris in March 2016.
What are some of the exhibitions you have partaken in?
I have participated with the iDream collection in Tranoi Paris and Scoop London.
What are some of the future collections you are working on? What are some of your future plans?
Currently, I am working on some new derivatives of the dream catcher that will be showcased in Jewellery Arabia 2016 in Bahrain. And next year will introduce new collection that will complement the dream catcher.
Where are you currently retailed? and where do you plan on expanding further?
Currently I am retailed in Projekt 8 in Moda Mall in Bahrain, and in House of Fraser in Abu Dhabi. And soon online on my website: www.eljewan.com
Is there anything else you would like the readers to know about you and your business?
As eljewan is a part of the ethical jewellery designing community, we have started our special social project “I Dream I Inspire” which is focused on those who have been brave enough to follow their heart and transform their dreams into reality. And the others that redirect their passion towards being successful in what they are doing after not succeeding in achieving their initial dreams.
We hope that this social project will inspire people to take steps no matter how small they are to transform these dreams into living reality.
