Ebrahim Al Wazzan
BY ANAAM IKRAM
iPhoneography has fast become a familiar term for taking photos with iPhones. On our little Island, it is fair to say that every corner of this beautiful country is a photo worth taking. Award-Winning Bahraini, Ebrahim Al Wazzan, has done just that.
Incorporating his artistic eye with an iPhone to produce breath-taking pictures of Bahrain’s scenery, Al Wazzan captures the Kingdom through his perspective. The talented photographer sat down with Perle to share his view through the lens.
Working in the Ministry of Information Affairs Authority for 13 years, Al Wazzan started working as a PR Specialist, working his way up to the position of Head of Media and Events. His job has allowed him to come across some of the most influential people in the world today.
His passion for photography started from taking pictures for the popular social media site Instagram. Though he had not planned it, his images soon garnered positive feedback from friends and family further encouraging him to pursue this passion. The appraisal of his work led him to creating a second Instagram page, @kingdom_of_bahrain_bh, dedicated purely to his photography.
Happy to continue taking pictures from his iPhone rather than investing in professional cameras, Al Wazzan says there is no limit to the images he takes of sceneries. He says whatever scenery catches his eye, he snaps an image of it to add to his ever-expanding portfolio. Most of the images are from his drives to and from work.
His mastery of photography earned him the Social Media Award in 2013 for the category of Instagram pictures in Bahrain. The award, which was presented by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamed, further cemented his status as a renowned photographer. This even led to a few of his pictures being selected to feature in the book 100 Photos of Bahrain.
Boasting over 1000 pictures on his photography Instagram account, Al Wazzan says he would like to publish a photo book using his pictures of the Kingdom.
Having travelled all over the GCC, Africa and Europe, Al Wazzan says he is constantly taking pictures, “I am just learning as I go along.” The beauty of the images by Al Wazzan stems from the fact that his pictures capture landmarks in Bahrain and present them from his refreshing perspective. “When they are seen through my eyes and lens, they are transformed into something else”, he says. Al Wazzan says these everyday landmarks really stand out to him and with some edits, he shares images of Bahrain in a way never imagined before. With his expansive photography collection on the scenery in the Kingdom, no landmark will ever look the same again.
