Breaking the stereotype that women should only in be involved in ‘’girly’’ businesses, 75Fast owner Hind Ahmed Abdulla is ensuring her clients are offered the best delivery services in Bahrain. Meshing together her expertise in Information Technology with her MBA, Hind was able to conceive a successful business that caters to the needs of home-based and online ventures.
Hind’s journey to starting her own company began during her internships. Gaining work experience as well as getting specialised certificates, she worked towards the goal of becoming established in the field of IT. While studying for her MBA, Hind realised it was the right time for her to look into opening up her own company, something she had sought to do for sometime. Her research of the markets in Bahrain brought her across the rising trend of Instagram-based businesses. Though these companies had their own products, the issue lay within getting these products to the customers and paying hefty delivery prices. Hind seized the opportunity and filled the gap by starting 75Fast: a local delivery service that works with clients to bring their products to customers at a lower cost.
When Hind first introduced the idea of starting a delivery service company, many questioned her and suggested that as a woman she should be venturing in something more feminine. Not easily disheartened, Hind continued with her plan to start the business. She says she saw a need for her services in Bahrain and her line of work is of great interest to her. Her biggest supporter is her father and she says what is important is that her family and friends are by her side.
The company was set up in January 2014 and works in close association with enterprises of all natures. Whether it is food, clothes, or beauty products, 75Fast’s team is available to deliver goods of all kinds. Initially, Hind says, she was worried it would be difficult for her to enter the market and establish a strong customer base. Luckily, within the first month of setting up her company, her services were in high demand and they were fully booked.
Hind explains that clients reach out to her through Instagram after which there is a scheduled arrangement of when the goods will be picked up. The select items are then brought to the office, logged in the system and delivered to the customers. 75Fast offers same day delivery for food items or urgent products, next-day delivery, and 3-day delivery. With a cash-on-delivery system or within 3-days, 75Fast allows itself to be flexible to accommodate its customer’s needs.
“It has been a great experience but as with any business, there have been a lot of ups and downs”, says the young entrepreneur. She explains her biggest lessons were learnt when two of her company drivers resigned, resulting in her delivering the goods herself. Though initially her family were reluctant towards her carrying out this task, they appreciated the tremendous amount of effort she made to sustain her business. “There is nothing wrong with women doing all sorts of jobs as long as it’s respectful,” she says, adding “I think this stereotype can be easily broken, and women should do whatever they think is right. They should go out and do it”.
In the future, Hind says they are looking to start an IT business. The goal of that business would be to offer their clients mobile and web applications to aid in business development and growth. Rather than Instagram, the companies would have their own websites and downloadable apps in which the customer can place their orders.
75Fast is perhaps one of the few independent companies with such a diverse clientele and caters to their delivery needs. With 638 followers on Instagram in a matter of 17 months, the steadfast growth of the business highlights the need and importance of reliable customer service.
