GET THE LOOK
Nothing can chase away the January blues quite like a pop of colour, and this season we’re wearing it all over our eyelids and lips. Lips are the obvious choice but you could try a colourful eye pencil instead; purples are great for green eyes; aubergines and oranges for blue eyes; and brown eyes can try any colour. This is a fun trend so be brave and enjoy. Read on to find out how to re-create this bold and beautiful beauty statement and make it come to life.
This spring the look is definitely about flawless, natural matte skin with highlighted elements and a vibrant pop of colour. From Mad Men’s entrée, to psychedelic times, to the kaleidoscopic lids at Chanel’s spring show, punchy, vibrant hues-both glossy and matte-are warming up this season’s runways and red carpets, alike. Not to be confused with high school tints, these tones are decidedly grownup when applied properly.

Put away your full coverage foundations and replace them with sheer foundations as they are much lighter and less likely to clog your pores. There are plenty of amazing matte foundations that eliminate the need for powder. To achieve a luminous look, add a brightening primer or illuminating moisturiser to your skin care. Or you can add a couple of drops of a liquid shimmer product, such as MAC Lustre Drops to your foundation. Use a soft buffer brush to really work the foundation into the skin so you look radiant from within. Liquid foundations work best when you are trying to keep the base light and sheer. Try Estée Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Foundation.
Defined brows with a natural athletic and masculine shape are right on trend this season. To get the look, start off by putting away the tweezers. Let your brows grow,
then comb them straight and up a little. If your brows are sparse, fill in with a little
brow pencil using soft strokes, then brush through with a clean mascara wand that can be spritzed with hairspray so that brows stay naturally in place.
COLOR-BLOCKED EYESHADOW There is no need to choose just one hue: This cool, paint box-toned spectrum looks sexiest when worn in threes. From the brow bone to under the eyes. Blend contrasting colours into each other, making sure they flow into one another. Line the upper inner rims with black, adding turquoise pencil below it, and always apply mascara.
TIP: Wet your brush before lining eyes. If you’re slightly less daring, stick to the eyelids only for a striking shot of colour.
All over bronze enhances your features in a natural way, use to create both naturally flushed cheeks or defined sculpted cheeks. Liquid bronze or blusher is also great for this season as it gives a sheerer more luminous look.
Make sure lips are in top condition by exfoliating (try brushing with a damp toothbrush) and moisturising with lip balm before applying the lip colour. Pink is a great transitional colour from winter to spring/summer, and will suit all skin tones because of the blue in the base. It will also make your teeth look nice and white. Look for a colour that lifts your skin tone and doesn’t make your teeth look yellow. Blue-based reds and pinks are great on most skin tones; it is the orange reds that are a little harder to wear.
