IF THE SHOE FITS…
BY AMMARA ISA
Established in 1851, Bally instantly became a staple in the Swiss fashion scene. The brand made it very clear what they intended to do – revolutionize the shoemaking industry and it did so, taking it by storm. Armed with groundbreaking American technology in the 19th century, Bally emerged as a leading European shoemaker rooted in its strong Swiss heritage. It began to expand its presence all over the world, gaining a loyal fashion following in France, England, Uruguay and Brazil.
In 1896, Bally reaffirmed its pledge to innovation by incorporating specialist Goodyear welting techniques into the making of its handmade shoes. Their expert craftsmen have perfected this technique, and on its 100th year anniversary, it became a pivotal part of all their collections. In 1951, each shoe was handmade taking six hours to compete. Their dedication to excellence is so intense; there was a 200-step process behind each pair of shoes. Every product underwent this rigorous routine to ensure each was created according to Bally’s high standards.
The iconic Scribe shoe created in 1951 became the very definition of Bally’s legacy. A men’s lace up shoe named after the Hotel Scribe in Paris, the shoe perfectly united traditional craftsmanship with a modern design. It became one of Bally’s most famous products and it, and its many variations, is still in production today.
Today, Bally continues its ruthless pursuit of perfection. Pioneers not just in design, Bally uses its extensive knowledge in personalized shoe manufacturing to create bespoke shoes for its clients. Cultivated over 160 years, their level of expertise has reached stratospheric levels. Pushing the boundaries of custom fashion, Bally has now launched its Made-to-Order services exclusively to Jashanmal in Bahrain.
The select service allows customers to pick between creating a new shoe or the option of reinventing a classic from Bally’s extensive archives. Adding momentum to their innovation over the years, Bally is creating a service aiming to elevate an individual’s personal style. Each shoe is made-to-measure infusing each outfit with Bally’s iconic style.
There are five stages before you can get your hands on your own custom designed footwear. Individuals have to pick their material, colour, sole and fitting, size and then their choice of signature. Each part of the shoe is carefully considered and is structured to suit the clients needs.
When it comes to style Bally is unrivalled in its range. Firstly, you are invited to pick your style of shoe. Bally offers up to 8 styles from the classic Scribe to brogues and loafers. Secondly, you pick your material. This is where the uniqueness of each shoe is emphasized. Choices include over 14 different types of rich leathers so there is the option of going as extravagant or as simple as one wishes. Exotic materials are nestled amongst standard leathers and are carefully hand-dyed in several layers and sewn together with Bally’s signature hallmark of multiple stitching. A friendly expert is also always on hand to advise.
The third stage involves sizing the shoe to mould to the contours of each individual’s foot ensuring a perfect fit. Each foot is meticulously measured from heel to toe by craftsmen dedicated to shoemaking.
A metallic Bally’s crest is then embedded into the sole of each shoe, however there is the option of having a rubber sole without the emblem. Finally, each customer’s name is handwritten inside the lining for that extra personal touch.
This process reimagines footwear manufacturing in true Bally style. Design does not impede functionality; style is not compromised by comfort. Instead, you can expect a combination of Bally’s ode to traditional shoemaking wrapped up in cutting-edge contemporary designs of your choice. This is why the classic Scribe shoe is a firm favourite of many, renown for its chic design and exquisite detailing.
The personalized service offered reveals a new level of personal style. It allows the brand to tailor to individual tastes to guarantee that customers are completely satisfied with their one-of-a-kind footwear.
The introduction of this service in Bahrain has been nothing but a success. Bally are making a statement that they have arrived in the Kingdom and they have come with their finely crafted shoes in tow.
Bally Made To Order is offered exclusively at Jashanmal, Al Aali Mall Bahrain.
