Industry Meets Brew
Providing a stunning view of the Sitra bridge from the full-sized window on one side of the newly opened coffee shop, Crust and Crema’s second branch located in Galleria Mall is an exceptional café serving high quality coffee, complemented with a great ambiance. A step away from the ‘homely’ theme at the Saar location, Crust and Crema’s Zinj branch has a more rustic and industrial aesthetic, yet still offers an inviting aura, and undoubtedly serves the same level of quality coffee. With a larger customer capacity and a nouveau café experience unlike any other, Crust and Crema successfully welcomes its customers – old and new – to its new branch.
Located on the corner of Galleria Mall, Crust and Crema’s three-sided glass façade allows in ample sunlight during the day and offers a great view of the outdoor courtyard area, making the café seem more spacious and refreshing, even from indoors.
The two-storey café boasts an open bar on the bottom floor and invites customers to not only enjoy their drink while seated there but also provides an insider view into the roastery, allowing them to be part of the coffee-making experience. Being able to accommodate approximately 70 persons at a time, the artisanal café’s top floor is more suitable for those who really wish to take in the rustic feel of the café with each sip (or bite!).
Adding an artistic element to the interiors are the epoxy-glazed walls upon which the café staff have written the profiles of the different coffees being used to make the drinks. From mason-jar lights, exposed wiring, metal mesh raining, chain mail hanging from the walls, to coffee filled burlap sacks placed on the stairs, to quirky minute details such as pressure valve drawer knobs and a wash basin place inside a small trolley, Crust and Crema’s interior transports the customers away from the humdrum of the daily routine to a more underdone yet laid-back setting, complete with the freshly brewed cup of coffee. The dim lighting in the café, during the evenings, lets the customers feel more comfortable and cosy as they work, read, or simply sit and enjoy their hot or cold beverage in a mellow environment. Inspired from the idea of seeming cultured and refined without having to look sophisticated, the ‘raw’ aesthetic of Crust and Crema is further highlighted through the wooden tabletops and vintage-style chairs, combining together the elements of ‘industrial’ and ‘retro’. Ensuring the customers are always at ease, the walls along the staircase have a carefully constructed 3D raised roof to give the feeling of more room in the otherwise narrow space.
Laying them out in the open, the products sold at Crust and Crema are displayed on industrial-style wooden and metal shelves and customers are welcome to explore the wide variety of coffee-making tools to produce the best cup of coffee each time. From KeepCups to the artisanal coffee brewing pots, filters, and even the all-in-one coffee maker Cafflano Klassic, and the different types of coffees, the artisanal speciality-coffee café offers its customers a complete and novel coffee drinking experience, resulting in a myriad of loyal customers in a short time since opening.
A combination of delicious bites, clean cup of freshly brewed and rich-tasting coffee, and a pleasurable experience overall, Crust and Crema is more than just a coffee house, but rather a place for the coffee enthusiasts to come together and indulge in their favourite caffeinated beverage. Whether it is the more cosy location in Saar, or more urban-esque location in Galleria Mall, Crust and Crema is a café that has proven to be a charming and appealing place for all.
