Located in Adliya, a multicultural neighbourhood with diverse choices of cuisine, Kunefis brings the traditional Turkish – Iskenderun to be specific – flavours to the tastebuds of Bahrain. From interior of the restaurant to its food, Kunefis offers an authentic Iskanderuni ambiance of to the masses. “Kunefis”, which came from the Turkish dessert, “kunefe”, and “Is” to signify the region Iskenderun, from where it was founded by a family-owned company, Billur Food Ltd.
Headed by Chairman, Misfer AL Qhatani and his workforce, Kunefis serves various delectable breakfasts, such as tasty breads and sweet desserts. A very common Turkish specialty for breakfast is their Minimen omelet, which includes ingredients, such as tomato, green peppers, and various spices to enhance the flavour of the dish. Paired with the traditional Turkish tea, Simit, is a popular Turkish bread, which is usually served to start your morning appetite. Kunefis also serves a wide variety of flavourous desserts such as traditional knefe and baklava. The menu for the main course reflects genuine Turkish cuisine that has been refashioned slightly for the taste of the GCC clientele, with the Iskanderuni knefe as the signature dish. It is an oven baked kadaifi with molten cheese at the centre, complemented with syrup and kaymak. The ingredients of the food served are products of Turkey, or locally sourced and made fresh in house.
The two-story building with a wide space can accommodate at least 120 to 140 people. The spacious open-air rooftop location, decorated with astroturf, which gives an outdoor-dining feel and a view of Adliya below, allows the customers to enjoy their food with a pleasant view.
Misfer Al Qhatani, Chairman of Kunefis – the man behind the vision
Traveling from Saudi to Bahrain often, Misfer Al Qahatani was enchanted by the Kindom’s culture and people and decided to make a small part of Bahrain his haven. The flame ignited within him to do something unique on the business front, and he took the opportunity to proudly introduce Kunefis, and offering the rich and delectable taste of Turkish cuisine.
Having received his education from a university in Saudi Arabia and University of Bahrain, Misfer is undoubtedly a methodical businessman and a man of strong morals, and says the most important elements that build a successful business are honesty, integrity, and hard work. Without these essentials, success within a business cannot be achieved. Managing his time between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Misfer says time management is a key element he focuses on, but also makes sure he has enough time to exercise and relax, paired with a healthy diet to ensure his health is not at risk through his vigorous work regime.
“I am self-motivated person and I am always ready to face challenges . I have strong interpersonal skills and get along with people very well”, he says, and adds “I believe in vision and action and I learn from my mistakes. My integrity and values such as being kind and friendly are my pride.” His commitment to ensuring not only his customers, but also his colleagues are treated with respect and are satisfied is one of the key drivers behind the success of his various business across the region.
