With a newly launched menu, Oliveto adds a variety of succulent dining options to its signature modernised Italian cuisine
Residents and visitors – old and new – of Bahrain know the history of its finest award-winning Italian restaurant, Oliveto. Having been established in 2004, and closing down under dire circumstances, Oliveto was reborn and brought to its customers the same mouth-watering modernised Italian cuisine in a plush and urbane restaurant setting. Divided into three dining and lounging sections, Oliveto is designed to accommodate and welcome every kind of customer and has long been a favourite of the Island, and with the launch of the new menu, diners get more than just delicious food in their fine dining experience. Diners experience Italy through the newly introduced flavours and tastes at the hands of renowned Chef GianMaria Le Mura. General Manager, Leandro Pesci – a member of the F&B Management industry for over 15 years – spoke to Perle Magazine about the new items on the menu, the dishes that are already becoming crowd favourites, and new specials Oliveto has to offer.
Originating from Sicilly, Chef GianMaria’s vast experience working as a Pastry Chef and Executive Chef at various locations in Italy such Ca’dei Mercanti in San Polo, Venice, Maidire ristorante Gastone S.R.L in Giarre, to even working in Fort Bonifacio in the financial district of Manila, Philippines, has allowed him the culinary expertise and ease to combine different tastes to create a dish that is completely unique and delicious. Combining this expertise while staying true to his origins and the well-known taste of Oliveto, Chef GianMaria has added exquisite dishes, perfected the favourites, and brought back the classics. Offering the classic Italian cuisine, the talented chef adds a modern twist by playing with the textures and contrasting flavours.
The menu at Oliveto had always offered diners a rich spread of staple food items from Italian cuisine, with dishes such as Grilled Octopus with Beetroot Puree, or the Sea Scallops wrapped with Beef bacon strips becoming the best sellers on the menu. Chef GianMaria has uplifted the menu by introducing a number of dishes that diners can indulge in such as the Pizza Sultana, a light and fresh pizza with homemade base topped with mozzarella cheese, bresaola, rucola salad, and fresh tomatoes for those who want to experience the true taste of Italy but in a light meal. The Burrata Alla Genovese is another delicious starter option as the creamy Burrata cheese is combined with soft and succulent cherry tomato confit and basil pesto – a flavorous dish in each bite. For the seafood lovers, the Spaghetti Cicale Di Mare is an exciting treat with squid ink black spaghetti sautéed with crayfish and a light fresh tomato sauce, and the Polpo Cotto Alla Griglia offers a healthier and lighter seafood option with grilled sliced octopus and beetroot puree. The Nella Zucca is also a delightful new addition to the risotto family created by combining the unique flavours of Italian pumpkin risotto with chicken and Gorgonzola cheese, resulting in a scrumptious and filling dish. Additionally, Oliveto’s expansive menu boasts a variety of dishes that please any taste palate, from filling starters to fresh salads, homemade pastas and risotto, to meat/chicken/seafood dishes, and delectable desserts, all of which have been created by fusing together ingredients in an unorthodox manner yet are still complementary, resulting in each dish tasting like a modernised version of authentic Italian cuisine. Having served plate after plate of Italian gastronomic craftsmanship in the past has rightfully earned Oliveto a myriad of awards, including Best Italian Restaurant in Bahrain by TimeOut, and the success of the new menu mirrors the restaurant’s reputation across the region.
Oliveto’s contemporary and spacious indoor setting, with large windows in the Dining Room and Dining Lounge allow the customers to enjoy their meal with a view of Adliya’s ever-popular Block 388 area, as well as a view of Oliveto’s The Deck – which transports diners to an outdoor scene in Italy as it brings together quintessential Italy and the comfort of Oliveto’s inviting ambiance, with an alfresco seating area and a pool in the centre, surrounded by the centuries old olive trees and a great open air-dining experience. Loungy Jazz Sessions and DJ – Nightly, Anthony plays a piano and sings the classiest jazz-style songs from 8pm, followed by DJ Ras on The Decks mixing together the best of house, pop, and chic beats.
