The Kingdom of Bahrain has always had a rich history of being masters in the jewellery industry. Whether it is the big traditional gold pieces worn during special occasions, the ever-famous Bahraini pearls, or even the small intricate pieces that come to serve as a personal sentiment for the wearer; whenever there is mention of jewellery within the Kingdom, without fail one can think of a list of well-established jewellers in the country. Those key players have not only been in the industry for generations, but year after year have greatly enhanced the variety and quality of jewellery that Bahrain has to offer and has made it one of the prized industries of the GCC. Among these names is the Kingdom’s the most recognised jewellery house, Bahrain Jewellery Centre (BJC). From 1978 to date, BJC is renowned for its long history of excellent products, after sales service, and never failing to serve quality on all aspects of their business. Perle Magazine spoke to Mohamed Shirazi, Director at BJC, about the family business and its evolution over the years into establishing itself as Bahrain’s highly regarded luxury jewellery house.

Finding their way in the Bahraini market: from a small shop in the Manama Souq to becoming the vision of extravagance in Bahrain

Established in 1978 by Abdulrazak Shirazi (Mohamed’s father) and his nephews, Abdulmajeed and Abulqassim Shirazi, Bahrain Jewellery Centre found its beginnings in the heart of Manama souq as a stand-alone store. At the time, BJC was able to fit into the market’s niche for luxury goods, especially watches and jewellery, and filled that void by providing its customers with the highest level of commitment in terms of jewellery selection, quality, variety, service, and most importantly customer relationship.

The Shirazi family’s commitment to their business and the need to further evolve to have the opportunity to continue serving their customers the utmost luxury as well become one of the best in the Kingdom lead to the company’s impressive and successful expansion over 38 years. Today, with a total of 17 stores and boutiques, the jewellery house offers its customers an array of products from high-end jewellery to watches within all prices to fit the customer’s budgets. Home to some of the world’s most renowned brands such as Chopard, Piaget, Bvlgari, Tiffany & Co., Hublot, Omega, Patek Philippe, to name a few; BJC’s carefully curated selection is an ode to each brand’s history, craftsmanship, and designs. The team travels yearly to the SIHH watch fair in Geneva and Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Fair in Basel to handpick these brands, ensuring they meet the exemplary criteria at BJC. The jewellery house offers its customers a unique selection of gifts from highly favoured brands such as Kosta Boda, as well as catering to their younger clientele with a BJC Baby store (located in Al Aali Mall), which houses a selection of gift items for kids and babies.

Understandably, many brands at BJC enjoy a loyal array of clients who are eager to purchase the new items launched by their favourite brands. Over the years BJC has witnessed their customers’ increased interest in specific brands, such as with Patek Philippe’s Nautilus watch that has a year-round waiting list, and brands with modernised signature collections such as Bvlgari’s Serpenti Collection and Chopard’s Happy Diamonds, which have become customer favourites.

Ensuring all their customers are catered to with the utmost expertise and professionalism, BJC does not shy away from offering its expansive services to the customer. This can be anything from being able to customise and alter the pieces according to their liking, a made-to-order concept, for certain brands, whereas for other brands, customers have the option to personalise items they felt a special connection with, thus adding to its sentimental value, as well as ordering certain jewellery and watches upon the customers’ requests and availability. Additionally, BJC, with skilled in-house jewellers, offers customers the opportunity to revamp their own personal jewellery pieces.

The Centrepiece: BJC’s values and core beliefs that have propelled them to success

The passion towards bringing to customers a wide selection of luxury products that add elements of grace and sophistication to any wearer and become a part of their identity, is eminent within any branch of BJC. Seeing their customers mirror the same passion and reciprocate it, is by far one of the most rewarding aspects of being a jeweller in the industry, Mohamed says.

“Our main focus since the inception of BJC has been, and persistently remains, to offer excellent customer service, having an immense and updated collection of watches and jewellery, and of course, have phenomenal after-care service,” he says. It is these defining values of the business that has lead to obvious success throughout the years and continues to grow further. Ensuring all the staff at BJC is knowledgeable with the most up-to-date information about each brand and craftsmanship that accompanies their product. BJC’s promise towards item longevity also means the staff is constantly trained with the highest level of skill and state-of-the-art technology to provide these after-care services as it is an aspect of the business that has always had great focus placed on it to this day. BJC provides these services at their stand-alone service centre located in Moda Mall to meet all of their clients’ expectations.

More gems in the collection: expanding BJC to become closer to their customers

Now, BJC proudly houses over 40 prominent jewellery and watch brands and has been a participator in Jewellery Arabia since its launch in 1992, and has become one of the most prominent exhibitors at the event. Their stall covers an impressive area of over 2500 sq metres and is located distinguishably in Hall A of the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre. With a warm and inviting ambiance and plenty of goods to admire and purchase, the BJC stand is by far one of the most desirable locations to visit during the event. Always looking to offer their customers a new and exciting experience, for Jewellery Arabia 2016, BJC introduces new brands, further expanding the BJC family, in addition to their generous collection of jewellery and watches.

Working on renovations of the BJC shop-in-shop concept store in City Centre Bahrain will be ready mid-November and the Chopard Boutique at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Bahrain, has already opened, BJC is also working towards the expansion of the much sought-after Patek Philippe store, which will also take place in the upcoming months. Not forgetting their roots, the flagship store in the Manama Souq will also be undergoing renovations that will be complete in early 2017. Doors to the new Tag Heuer boutique located in City Centre have also opened up for customers to come in explore the latest collections of the luxury watch, whilst the highly anticipated renovation of the Piaget boutique in Moda Mall has been completed and is now welcoming customers as well.

“Your satisfaction is our highest honour.” A longstanding commitment to housing opulence paired with excellent services and customer satisfaction, BJC has successfully managed to not only earn a reputation for itself as one of the most luxurious jewellery companies in the Kingdom, but has continued to build upon it with passing time. BJC’s 38 years of being part of the industry has greatly elevated the Kingdom’s variety in terms of jewellery and horology, and has rightfully allowed the jewellery house to be seen as one of the key contributors in the industry.

Their diligence to deliver upon their promise of quality, whether it is for a magnificent watch, a bespoke jewellery piece, or something small and intimate, has cemented the house’s’ reputation. Embodying extravagance and luxury,

BJC’s loyal customers serve as a testament for the high quality products and services offered by the jewellery house. BJC’s history of providing excellence and quality goes hand-in-hand with Bahrain’s rich jewel-laden past and is a symbol that BJC is an eminent part of the Kingdom’s identity.
