THE WOMEN DANS LA MODE
BY ALI AL BANA
It is widely speculated how male designers supposedly know what compliments the female figure, or what the varied female personas want to put onto their bodies as a form of second skin. I don’t – nor can – deny how truthful that speculation is, the male perception (dare I say) is considered somewhat more significant.
As significant as the male perception may seem, none can relate to a woman’s form then women themselves and design garments that other females would enwrap themselves in. Be it sheer lace with Swarovski appliqué, a statement piece made of ostrich leather, or a piece that hugs every curve, female designers can most likely hit the right spots without even having to try.
Overcoming the overcast, and creating a new and profound in lining seams, local, regional, and international female designers have made their mark on the market. Highlighting individuals in the region, here are some designers that I think you need to keep your eyes on:

Noon By Noor’s refined aesthetic fuses understated luxury with a playful femininity.
MADIYAH AL SHARQI
Born into the royal family of Fujairah, Madiyah was exposed to fine tailoring from a young age. She became intrigued with design process and decided to pursue a career in fashion. Upon graduating from the École supérieure des arts et techniques de la mode (ESMOD). Madiyah launched her eponymous label in 2012, based in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.
Bahrain-born and London-bred designer Mimi Nonoo (Misha Nonoo) founded her namesake collection in 2011. Placing equal importance in the level of the fabrics and ornate details as the impeccable tailoring and construction of her garments within her defined lines, contrasted against her sheer fabrics and soft as better crepe pieces.
